New Zealand’s AC75 Showcase Some Great Sights

 

AC75 is the Emirates team from New Zealand participating in America’s Cup. It was out this week for the third time. The boat, after being dragged out at the entrance to towards the Waitemata, she slipped away and rigged up from the other chasing boats that were sailing fast against the strong winds that recorded 19kts. The average gust of the winds was recorded 25kts at Bean Rock which was a nearby location of the boat.


This was slightly less that had a greater range at a much lower point near the Northern Leading Beacon which is located just north side of the Bean Rock. The readings at the Bean Rock are generally taken from a greater height compared to the Northern Leading. It is required to reduce it by at least 3kts for getting the right readings of the sea level. The conditions of the match, as well as the wind limits, are being talked about for some weeks now and in this situation, it was appealing to see the performance of AC75 against the observation point of wind on the Bean Rock.

Daryl Wislang Want To Win Title Of Sydney Hobart To Have A Successful Year

Daryl Wislang last year claimed the title of Volvo Ocean Race. And in Sydney Hobart Yacht Race (SHYR) he managed to finish in the line of honours.

The ambition of Wislang this year is also the same, now for the dash starting from Sydney to Hobart through the Bass Strait, he jumped on the board Comanche, which is starting today. It is the same boat he won in the year 2015 when he won the Sydney Hobart. It happened just a few months after claiming the title of Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) with Dongfeng Race Team (DRT). The race took place year says Comanche taking the line of honours once again, although his rivals Wild Oats XI got the penalty of one-hour for the incident of port-starboard with Comanche at the beginning of the and probably this pair will again do it when the race will start.

Finn Lynch Wins 1st Gold Fleet Series Race

Finn Lynch of Ireland wins a race in the gold fleet series at the Sailing World Championships. He is competing in the laser event of the Championship. He is gearing up to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and wants to win a medal for Ireland in this event. It looks like his preparations are going in the right direction.

Despite the light winds at the gold fleet series race, Finn was able to show the world how to race in such conditions. He had an emphatic victory and he needs to do more to prove his mettle. This gold fleet series is a four-race event that is held after six qualification races.

2017 US Sailing Championship Of Champions

The 2017 US Sailing Championship of Champions was a test of teamwork as well as skills and this is where Steve Benjamin as skipper along with his crew with members like Christopher Larson and Phil Trinter were victorious.


The race spanned three days in Sonar and there were about thirteen champions of the one design class category who were selected for the race. The champions of this race are awarded the Jack Brown Trophy.

In the race Benjamin’s team was able to outperform the team skippered by Chris Raab, who had been 2010 champion of this race. This win for Benjamin is the first in achieving the Jack Brown Trophy. The first seven races that were held at this championship saw Raab have a lead with his crew members. This team had won the 2017 Lido National Championship this year, which helped them qualify for this race. There is a special guest provision added to this sailing event by US Sailing every year. 25th International Optimist Regatta Won By Callahan

The 25th International Optimist Regatta event took place from June 16 to 18 in Saint Thomas, USVI.


The event was a very successful one with a record 119 sailors taking part in the three-day extravaganza. The sailors arrived at St. Thomas from all over the USA, the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Michael Callahan puts up a stupendous show during the racing event and top scored in three races out of the 10 races. This is a huge achievement for Callahan and this helped him take the honors and win the title. He won the event in the 89-boat Red/Blue/Green fleet. He enjoyed a comfortable 7 point win over the second placed brother Justin. The third position went to Stephen Baker.

The young sailors in the age group of 7 to 15 years were given the chance to race in the advanced fleet or the beginner fleet. They were split as ages 13 to 15, Red group, ages 10 and under in white group, ages 11 and 12 in the blue group, green group or beginner group. Annual Wobbly Race Raises US $6,300

The Wobbly race has been one of the most looked forward to fund-raising events in the West Indies. This year too, there was no shortage of fun, frolic, and racing at the Wobbly Race event held in Antigua in the West Indies. The event is held for Antigua Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) and was able to raise EC $17,000 (US $6,300).

The Wobbly Race is sponsored by the Newport Shipyard for the past five years. They send a team every year in the West Indies to organize and host this very popular fundraising event. A total of ten teams took part in the 2017 Wobbly Race. This race is a peculiar race as the crew members and the captain of the yacht will have to build a boat on their own using two sheets of plywood and other essential supplies. NCC Will Take 702 KM Sailing

NCC Directorate of Gujarat has organized a sailing expedition in which 40 NCC cadets will participate and will cover a distance of 702 KMs.


The name of the event has been kept as “Dwarkadheesh Sea Sailing Expedition”. The event will start on 15 January 2017 and will go for 12 days. 30 members of boys NCC and 10 from senior girls NCC will form the team of forty.

Wing commander and defense spokesperson Abhishek Matiman said, “The objective of sailing expedition is to promote adventure sense in NCC cadet. NCC cadets are also the part of the Indian defense system and thus they too should get exposed adventure activity like this.”

Russians Show Their Authority At SB20 Worlds

Strong breeze and swelling conditions greeted the races on the penultimate day of the Cascais SB20 World Championships. The conditions proved that it would be a superb race for the asymmetrical fleets. Everyone was very eager to start the day and in their thirst to beat the others, five of the boats were penalized for being OCS for the first gun shot of the day.

The breeze for the day had set in nicely to aid the starting of the race and was at 15 to 18 knots. There was also a rolling Atlantic swell that ensured that the race would be fast paced. As the second race progressed, the wind speed picked up to 20 knots and the right hand side was in for a strong favor. Etchells US National Championship won by Steve Benjamin

For more than a decade, sailors of Etchells have clumped south in the winter to relish beautiful weather, warm water as well as outstanding yacht racing of Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida.

Annually, the Coral Reef Cup arranged by the Coral Reef Yacht Club and Biscayne Bay Fleet 20 world as the winter finale for Etchells Class Southern Circuit, following the 4 regatta Biscayne Bay Series.
